Milk Snakes

Black Milk Snakes
(Lampropeltis triangulum gaigeae)

These amazing animals start their hatchling lives as red, black, and cream-to-yellow banded tri-colored snakes. As they grow through their juvenile phase (1-2 years) they begin to “fade to black” completing the transition by the time they reach maturity. Once this ontogenetic change has been completed, the Black Milk Snake takes on a truly impressive appearance exhibiting a colorful iridescence full of blues, indigos, and violets when held in the sunlight. Our Black Milks are San Antonio Zoo stock and are solid black.
